What uncensored actually means on an AI image generator

Uncensored is a marketing word that covers four different things.

No refusals

The tool does not decline adult prompts. This is what most people mean, and most tools on this bench deliver it on a paid plan.

No silent edits

Some tools accept the prompt and quietly remove the adult part, returning a clothed image with no message. That is worse than a refusal because you pay for the credit. The freedom reading counts silent edits against a tool.

No moderation of the output

Some tools generate the image and then blur or block it on review. Again, the credit is spent. Also counted against freedom.

No logging

A few tools, Venice most clearly, promise not to store prompts or outputs. That is a privacy property, not a content one, and it is scored under the usability and freedom readings where it affects what you will actually type.

What stays censored everywhere

Every tool on this bench prohibits sexual content involving minors and non-consensual imagery of real people. Most also block face-swapping onto real people. We exclude any tool that does not, and we report the ones we find.
